この秋津村の村長と対面する。
取り合えず、話を聞いてみると今朝方、イノシシ用の罠に『とあるもの』が掛かっていたとのことで、
それについての対処を相談したいとのことだった。
面倒だなぁと思いつつも、
普段から色々と面倒を見てもらっている村長に逆らうことも出来ず、渋々現場に向かう顕尚。

「頭に角……鬼、ですか？」
「そうだ。とにかく、鬼をこのままにしておくわけにはいかん。顕尚、お前がなんとかしろ」

こうして捕らえた鬼の管理を命じられてしまう顕尚だったが

「お前……孕み鬼の儀式について知っておるか？」
「孕み……鬼……ですか？」

どうやら先々代の宮司だった祖父が研究していた秘術らしい。
それが成功すれば様々な恩恵が得られるという。
次の日から儀式を成功させるため、祖父の残した文献などの研究を開始する顕尚。
果たして彼は村長の命令通り、儀式を完遂させることができるのだろうか――
